Apple today released firmware update 7.7.3 for Airport Extreme and Time Capsule base stations with 802.11ac. The update addresses the OpenSSL vulnerability to the ‘Heartbleed’ bug that has made headlines in recent weeks.
The bug, when exploited, allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of systems protected by vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software, enabling them to retrieve user information such as passwords.
Apple had previously issued a statement that none of its key web-based services were affected by the bug.
The following is Apple’s release log for the update:
- Addresses an issue that prevents a USB hard drive connected to an AirPort Extreme from appearing as an available disk in Time Machine
- Resolves an issue that may intermittently cause a loss in WAN connectivity
- Resolves an issue that may result in a network loop
The firmware update is not available for Airport Express base stations.
