French site Nowhereelse.fr has spotted photos posted on Weibo of what appear to be an aluminium backplate for a 12.9-inch ‘iPad Pro’. The authenticity of the images are highly questionable as they appear to be for a mockup unit and not an actual part.
Not much details can seen from the image, other than the larger size of the unit as compared to the 9.7-inch iPad Air. The usual circular cutout for the camera can be seen in the upper left corner. The rest of the mockup does not appear to be much different from the current iPad design.
Apple has been rumoured to be working on a larger iPad, with predictions dating back to July 2013 in a report from the Wall Street Journal. Last month, reliable Apple analyst Ming-chi Kuo stated in his 2014 Apple product roadmap that the company was indeed working on a 12-inch iPad but that it had no plans to release it in the current year.
